The Seton homeschool curriculum is provided by the Seton Home Study School. Seton Home Study School is an accredited Catholic school, under the Bishop of Arlington, as well as a fully accredited school with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The curriculum is offered for kindergarten through Grade 12 and is specifically aimed at providing learning materials that support both academic excellence and the teachings of the Catholic religion. The Seton Home Study School was founded in response to a growing need from parents for a homeschooling curriculum based on the successes of Seton Junior and Seton High Schools. Seton Junior and Seton High schools were founded in 1975 by Dr. Anne Carroll in Manassas, Virginia. Seton became a highly regarded and much sought after school for its academic excellence and religious teachings however, not all families could afford the tuition and boarding costs. Dr. Carroll developed the Seton homeschool curriculum to address the needs of those families. The Seton homeschool curriculum includes subjects such as religion, English, reading, maths, science, history, handwriting, foreign language, health and manners, music and art. Catholicism, as set forth by the Magisterium, is incorporated into all lessons. The curriculum also includes Catholic history and music and wherever possible Catholic text books are used. Science is taught from a creationistic point of view. The elementary curriculum is challenging and prepares students for the college-preparatory curriculum that is completed at high school level. Curriculum scheduling is handled by Seton with lessons sent to parents on a day-to-day basis. Parents are required to evaluate their students on an on-going basis with some tests being sent directly to Seton for grading. Seton uses the California Achievement Test to evaluate if students are attaining their grade level goals. The Seton Home Study School offers a number of additional curriculum resources. Parents can also make use of a customized curriculum for students with special needs, supplemental online learning materials as well as audio and video lectures. Seton Home School is accredited as a private school with the Virginia Department of Education and is also a member of the Virginia Council for Private Education.
